The sport of Baton Twirling is a complex sport where the technique of the twirling baton and the movement of the body are given equal credit. The major modes of baton twirling are aerials, contact material and rolls. Baton Twirling is a physically and mentally challenging sport because of the physical stamina required to perform a routine. Grace and entertainment value are needed when competing and the ability to concentrate and to achieve perfect musical timing. Also coordination of the twirling baton with the baton movement is essential. When all these factors are mastered, Baton Twirling is an awesome, thrilling, creative and phenomenal sport to hold. It is an advantage to have skills in dance or gymnastics, but not necessary.
Baton Twirling is a popular sport in countries such as Australia, Japan, Canada, France, Brazil, USA, Italy and Germany. Over 20 countries are members of the World Baton Twirling Federation. All Stars consistently represent NSW at the National competition which is held annually in New South Wales, Victoria or Queensland. We also have athletes who represent Australia in International competitions.
