Francis Leung – Piano Lesson and Music Theory

Quality piano lessons are offered to students of all ages/abilities.

Private Piano Lessons

Private piano lessons are offered weekly in 30, 45 or 60 minute sessions, depending on the student’s age/level. Scales, pieces, aural training, sight reading & music theory are covered in the lessons. Also, students will have the opportunity to compose their own music if they wish to. Students are expected to practise daily on a well-maintained acoustic piano, digital piano or keyboard. Please visit My Teaching Philosophy and Lessons for more information.

Music Theory Lessons

Studying music theory encourages students to understand and think independently from the earliest stages of learning. A good foundation in music theory creates confidence in performing different styles of music. As a student progresses, the development of connections between musician skills, knowledge and understanding becomes increasingly important, and is essential to deeper appreciation of how music works.

The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) require a certain grade in music theory as a prerequisite before taking a grade 6-8 practical exam.

Exam Preparation

Exam preparation is offered for the grading system of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) and Trinity College London. Students will have the opportunities to sit for both practical piano exam and written music theory examinations. Please visit Student Achievement for more information.

Apart from getting a certificate, there are many reasons why a student should consider taking an exam. Please visit Public Examinations for the benefits of taking a public exam.

Student Concert

A student concert is held every year (usually around May) at Granville Town Hall. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain the experience of performing in front of an audience. It is also a good opportunity for students to prepare and get themselves ready for examinations by playing the exam pieces at the concert. For more information about the student concert, please visit Student Concert.

Summer Music Camps

Summer Music Camps are held each year during the summer at my home studio in Rouse Hill. They are generally open to students currently taking piano lessons as well as students with no previous music background. Each year, the summer music camps focus on different topics such as composition, rhythm, music history & exploring different genres of music.
